Mute noisy Twitter users, easy and fast. (we simplify unfollowing and following back after the set time passes)

Temporarily mute people you follow if they suddenly get verbose for some reason (conference tweeting, neverending discussions/rants, etc.).

You can use our lovely bookmarklets, a DM or our full website to mute noisy friends by name or by keyword/hashtag. Head over to the Tools area to check 'em out at http://muuter.com/tools.

We use OAuth, so we don't ask for your password.

I hate hashtags. Now that you can mute via keyword/hashtag, this is an indispensible tool.

Other use cases:
* avoiding live twitter group chat
* conference live-tweeters
* social media "gurus" when they get a head of steam

I love the idea behind Muuter; without it, you'd have to either bear with annoying "once in a lifetime" tweeting or unfollow people and remember to follow them back. I also use Muuter in "test mode": when I'm beginning to wonder if one particular user should be unfollowed, I muute them first just to see how my timeline looks without him and if I miss him...

Muuter is awesome. I use it in "person" mode, mostly when group-type accounts (e.g. @woot, @whitehouse) go crazy and start spamming every few minutes. I also use it in "keyword" mode, but less often, when too many people I follow are going nuts about something I don't care about.

I do wish there was a way to filter *just* keyword-matching tweets without actually unfollowing, but I recognize the limitations imposed by the Twitter platform and Muuter is certainly the best way of dealing with it for now.

I love muuter. I use it to say "hush" to live-tweeters who I don't want to drop forever...but just need a break. The new hashtag-based "SXSW Filter" mode is Pure Genius.
